Return policy
Last updated: 31 March 2026
This policy explains how to return physical books ordered from RichterFoundation and when you can receive a refund or replacement. It applies to consumer purchases made through our website or agreed order channels unless a separate contract says otherwise.
1. Right of withdrawal (distance sales)
If you are a consumer in the UK or the European Economic Area and ordered online, you generally have 14 calendar days from the day you receive the goods to cancel the contract without giving a reason (the “cooling-off” period). To meet the deadline, send a clear statement of your decision to cancel before that period expires. We will confirm receipt and next steps by email.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, email orders@richter-foundation.org with your order reference, name, and the titles you wish to return. You may use our suggested wording: “I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract of sale of the following goods: [list]. Ordered on [date], received on [date]. Name, address, signature (if sent on paper), date.”
2. Condition of returned items
Returned books must be unused and in resalable condition, with any shrink-wrap or seals intact where supplied. Normal handling to inspect the goods is fine; excessive wear, writing, or missing inserts may reduce or void the refund. We may photograph or document condition on receipt if a dispute is likely.
3. How to send items back
After we approve your return request, we will provide the return address (our warehouse or partner fulfilment centre) and any required reference number to put on the parcel. Use a tracked service where possible and keep proof of postage until your refund is processed. Unless the goods were faulty or not as described, return shipping costs are normally borne by you, as permitted by applicable law.
4. Refunds
After we receive and inspect the returned goods, we will refund the product price using the same payment method you used, unless you agree otherwise. Delivery charges you paid for the original outbound shipment may be refunded only where the full order is cancelled and the law requires it. Refunds are usually processed within 14 days of receiving the goods back or of evidence that you have sent them, whichever is earlier.
5. Faulty, damaged, or wrong items
If an item arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, contact orders@richter-foundation.org with photos of the packaging and product and your order reference. We will offer a replacement, repair, or refund as appropriate. Do not dispose of the goods until we confirm, unless we ask you to.
6. Non-returnable cases
Sealed audio or media products where the seal was broken after delivery may not be returnable for hygiene or copyright reasons. Personalised or clearly made-to-order items may be excluded unless faulty. Gift cards or digital-only products, if offered, are governed by separate terms at purchase.
7. Statutory rights
Nothing in this policy limits mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence, including rights relating to faulty goods under local law.
